Imposition Problems

7.8 Imposition Problems

Verify the real command, local saved settings, design, and printer. A good sample-tool view is not proof of production content or physical output.

7.8.1 Unavailable or Still Single-Card

Check Professional features plus print role and Imposition Printing, not Print Current/ordinary Automatic. Confirm the current user's saved parameters/layout on this workstation, not another user's preview. Back up settings and resolve path/save/load permission through normal controls, not manual encrypted-configuration edits.

7.8.2 Paper, Card Dimensions, and Gaps

Use millimeters and match driver media. Avoid pixels or swapping long/short sides twice. Unrotated width is columns times card width plus intercolumn gaps; height is rows times card height plus interrow gaps. Swap overall extents for 90/270-degree rotation and account for alignment/printable margins.

Example only: 85.6-by-54 mm cards, two columns, three rows, 3 mm gaps produce 174.2-by-168 mm unrotated extents. This is not a universal stock/device preset; allow margins, holes, and finishing space.

Manual illustrationRequirements:

Figure 7.8-1. Use the actual tool with that fictitious example and mark paper, grid, gaps, bounds, and device printable region. Theoretical fit is not process acceptance.

7.8.3 Rotation, Mirroring, Alignment, and Holes

Whole-group rotation, individual-card orientation, and driver orientation are separate. Inspect one layer at a time. Custom X/Y refers to the sheet top-left only in Custom alignment; do not mix coordinate frames with centered/corner alignment. Use tested mirror settings without duplicate driver mirroring. Verify hole count/diameter/coordinates/clearance in page units, not zoomed pixels. Printed registration marks are not automatic punching.

7.8.4 Counts, Copies, Order, and Blank Slots

Capacity is two or rows times columns. Calculate records, copies, pages, and cards separately. Extra copies repeat a group, not fill blank positions. Five two-up records with one copy produce three single-sided pages, the last with only the first slot occupied. Do not duplicate the last person or delete people to obtain even counts. Verify visible checks/sort with numbered fictitious people rather than similar portraits.

7.8.5 Physical Trial and Resuming Batches

Measure one sample sheet's size, gaps, direction, origin, and holes, then a short batch with a partial last page. Reverse-side work requires an independently approved single-sided flip/pairing process, not a claim of duplex imposition support. Resume only after stock/content/order/copies/finishing pass. On partial-page failure reconcile which people already emerged, not merely a missing page count.

Manual illustrationRequirements:

Figure 7.8-2. Show sample people 1-5 across three two-up pages and final blank slot, plus a manually measured controlled trial. Do not imply formal device acceptance has occurred.
